Material handling hubs and harbors are a special environment where wear resistance and cost-effectiveness are the key elements of a tire. To meet the special requirements of port and terminal tires, the Magna Tyres portfolio is especially designed for travelling over relatively short distances, travelling back and forth to load or unload ships as quickly as possible and making a lot of return trips over rough surfaces. In several years, the variety of equipment in ports had evolved into a number of operations, each with specific challenges for the tires.
At this moment, the Magna port & terminal range can be mounted under container handlers, reach stackers and straddle carriers. Machines like terminal tractors also meet the requirements. These port and terminal machines need to carry heavy weights, often more than indicated. Container handlers, for instance, must be able to cope with the extreme height reach of their loading masts. Sometimes as high as 15-17 meters. This creates a heavy load on the front axle. The rear tires also come under pressure, as they have to ensure vehicle stability. The complexity of these vehicles and their extremely heavy loads require extremely robust tires.
Magna’s port tires are especially designed for use in harbors and terminal handling environments. The unique tread compound reduces heat build up inside and to avoid tread cracks. Besides the reinforced sidewall offers outstanding stability and helps to protect equipment, payload and driver comfort. Magna’s port and terminal tire range includes different sizes such as a 10.00 R20 or a 12.00 R20.
