More than 14,000 operating hours and still 24% of the original tread remaining. The Magna MA601 23.5-25 continues to demonstrate its durability on a 5-tonne wheel loader operating at a glass recycling plant in Nairobi, Kenya. Installed in March 2021, the solid tyres operate across three 8-hour shifts per day. After 1,945 days in service, the wheel loader has accumulated 14,063 operating hours on the same set of Magna MA601 tyres, with an average of 24% of the original tread still remaining. Based on their current condition, our local partner, Speciality Tyres Kenya Ltd, expects the tyres to deliver approximately another year of service.

Demanding conditions in glass recycling

Tyres used in waste management and recycling operations face demanding working conditions. Wheel loaders regularly operate around sharp, abrasive materials and debris, increasing the risk of cuts, punctures and tyre-related downtime. Choosing the right solid tyre is therefore important for maintaining machine availability and operational continuity. Read more about the specific tyre requirements for these environments in our guide: Best Solid Tyres for Waste Management & Recycling Operations. For this 5-tonne wheel loader in Nairobi, the Magna MA601 23.5-25 was selected to support an operation running three 8-hour shifts every day.

Solid construction for demanding operations

The Magna MA601 is engineered for wheel loaders and material handlers operating in heavy industrial environments. Its solid construction provides protection against cuts and punctures, while the deep tread design supports traction and machine stability. For recycling applications, these characteristics help reduce the risk of tyre-related interruptions and support consistent machine availability. The Magna MA601 23.5-25 features a tread depth of 180 mm, providing a substantial amount of usable rubber for applications where durability and long service life are important.

More than 14,000 operating hours on the same tyres

The results demonstrate the long-term performance of the Magna MA601 under real operating conditions. After more than five years of service, the tyres have completed 14,063 operating hours while retaining an average of 24% of their original tread. For an operation running multiple shifts per day, extended tyre life can reduce the frequency of tyre replacements and associated service interruptions. This helps protect machine availability and can contribute to a lower cost-per-hour over the tyre’s service life. With the tyres currently projected to remain in service for approximately another year, their total operating life could extend even further.

Proven tyre performance in recycling applications

The performance in Nairobi provides a practical example of how the Magna MA601 can support demanding recycling operations where tyre durability, puncture resistance and machine availability are critical. By combining solid construction with deep tread, traction and stability, the Magna MA601 helps operators minimise tyre-related downtime and maximise the usable life of their tyres. For fleets operating wheel loaders and material handlers in recycling, waste management and other demanding industrial environments, this translates technical tyre performance into a clear operational advantage.

About the Magna MA601

The Magna MA601 is a solid tyre developed for demanding industrial applications and is available for wheel loaders and material handlers. The range includes sizes from 17.5-25 to 35/65-33, including the 23.5-25 size used in this application.  Its solid construction, deep tread and resistance to cuts and punctures make the Magna MA601 a reliable solution for operations where durability, stability and operational continuity are priorities.
